What is ALS

ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) is a deadly nerve/muscle disease in which your muscles fall out one by one. In the Netherlands, about 1,500 people live with ALS, or the related diseases PSMA and PLS. Every year, 500 new patients are added and 500 die.

Research on ALS

ALS is relentless. After the first symptoms, people with ALS live an average of three to five years. The ALS Netherlands Foundation funds scientific research into the cause and treatment of ALS and the related diseases PSMA and PLS. In addition, we fund (research) projects for a better quality of care and life for patients and their loved ones. Due to recent technological developments, the chance of a breakthrough is closer than ever. What is needed now is much more money. No time to waste. That is why we are committed to raising as much money as possible for the ALS Netherlands Foundation during the USP Campus Run.
